Was promoted in October 1998 to the IS&T manager responsible for the development, approval and subsequent implementation of the European NT server strategy.

Monitoring and upgrading of existing network infrastructure to support sales, customer support, services and company administration. At the same time ensuring that the European strategy is totally synchronised with the Corporate network and support strategy. This involved continual liaison with the Corporate IT function in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Was responsible for gaining the approval for the UK and European IT network budget of £120,000 and subsequent monitoring of performance against budget and its effectiveness.

Achievements

  • Helped design, select suppliers and implemented the migration of our existing 10-Base2 network to a new 100 Mbps 10-BaseT network for the France operation. I also helped design and implement the migration of their main Novell 3.12 server to a NT server based network.
  • Designed, selected suppliers, implemented the migration of our existing 10-Base2 network to a new 100 Mbps 10-BaseT network (UK).
  • Successful implementation of the NT server strategy ahead of schedule and under budget.
  • Deployment of new Internet services, such as customer ftp site, Extranet, UK hosted web site and fully customisable personal Intranet. The above mentioned internet solutions were all implemented using Cold Fusion for back end database connectivity (either SQL server 6.5 or Access 97).
  • Successful connectivity to the US based AS400 system using the Internet as the transport media and network infrastructure.
  • Coordinated the information and results of the world wide network strategy to ensure a seamless implementation and ongoing support of the corporate network.

Responsible for the UK and European IT services of Entek IRD International, controlling a budget of £60,000.

Assessed, reported on the existing IS&T infrastructure and devised the IS&T strategic vision for both the UK and European operations in conjunction with the US parent company.

Company champion for internet related services.

Achievements:

  • Complete audit of hardware and software.
  • Successful standardisation of all European platforms through the migration from Windows 3.11 desktop OS to Windows 95. Upgrade of file server OS Novell 3.12 to 4.11.
  • Increased file server and network uptime from 80% to 95%.
  • Responsible for devising, implementing and administering the UK E-mail server and Internet connectivity strategy in conjunction with the US headquarters.
  • Based on the requirement for efficient inter-departmental and international information sharing and communication created the UK Intranet and secure link with US Intranet (using digital certificates, SSL and Cisco 2503 access list configuration).
  • Achieved under budget YTD expense performance.

Devise and implement a prototype web user interface to the Metro business applications in the area of business intelligence. In addition completed my dissertation on Building Corporate Intranets for the Master of Science in Computing for Business.

Achievements:

  • Prototype delivered and implemented during a 4 month industrial placement in Germany.
  • Dissertation completed, submitted and accepted with distinction from Staffordshire University.
  • Expanded the knowledge and understanding of using the German language in a computing and business environment.

A 6 month assignment to devise and provide a set of tools and utilities to create a distance learning environment, using the web as the transport media.

Achievements:

  • Present progress and findings on a monthly basis, including formal presentations to tutors and members of the Distance Learning Program committee.
  • Results of this work were incorporated into the Distance Learning Program at the University.

 

June 1994 . February 1995 Synchro Systems Ltd.

Hired to work in St. Petersburg, Russia, on the 1994 Goodwill Games ticketing project.

Together with the assigned team, this involved the setting up of the ticketing system, printing of tickets and the distribution to all the venues of the Games. This involved interfacing with all suppliers, vendors and selling tickets to the general public.

Following successful completion of the Goodwill Games, assigned to work in the UK on several projects. Close liaison with First Division football clubs and Ticketmaster on a remote ticketing sale project. In addition was responsible for generating corporate sales for both the 1995 Rugby League World Cup and UEFA Euro 96 football tournament.

Achievements:

  • Venue Management for ticket distribution and sales for the Petrovski stadium, which hosted the athletics event.
  • Assistant Venue manager at both Wembley and Cardiff stadia for the Rugby League World Cup in 1995.
  • Developed a strong working relationship with the box office staff at the First Division football clubs.
