Utgard Keep Video

| Comments

Just a testing video captured using fraps and merged using iMovie.

Clearly - Normal Utgard Keep from Greg Stewart on Vimeo.

One of the interesting things I noticed was that hello I am a clicker :) As a result of watching this video, I re-arranged my UI quite a bit and set up a number of key bindings. Still getting used to the new set up, I guess it’ll take time for the muscle memory to set in.

Project Stubbie Has Moved

| Comments

Yesterday I decided to move Stubbie away from RIAforge. It has nothing to do with RIAForge, I just decided to use Git and as a result move it to Github. Since Github basically provides all the tools, there was no need to keep anything on RIAForge. I moved the blog posts over to this blog and you can find them under the stubbie category. Over the coming days I aim to add some content to the Wiki. I also added a few new features:
 • a mach-ii plugin - so that stubs are recreated if needed on each request
 • ColdSpring integration for autowiring the objects in your test stubs (which can also make use of the Mach-ii ColdSpring plugin to that end)
 • Due to the Mach-ii CS integration I added a remote Facade for use with MXUnit (in order to access the application scope)
It’s all a little experimental at this stage and I’d be interested in your experience with the code, feedback, etc… Feel free to drop me a note or raise tickets over @ Github with your feedback or bugs or suggestions. Alternatively, just leave a comment here.

Enchants

| Comments

Just had a quick peak at the enchants published over at MMO Champion for Cataclysm and picked out the ones I thought might be interesting for tanks:
 • Boot - Mastery - Permanently enchant boots to increase mastery rating by 50.
 • Bracer - Dodge - Permanently enchant bracers to increase dodge rating by 50.
 • Bracer - Greater Expertise - Permanently enchant bracers to increase expertise rating by 50.
 • Chest - Greater Stamina - Permanently enchant a chest to increase Stamina by 75.
 • Chest - Mighty Stats - Permanently enchant chest armor to increase all stats by 15.
 • Chest - Peerless Stats - Permanently enchant chest armor to increase all stats by 20.
 • Chest - Stamina - Permanently enchant chest armor to increase Stamina by 55.
 • Cloak - Protection - Permanently enchant a cloak to increase armor by 250.
 • Gloves - Mastery - Permanently enchant gloves to increase mastery rating by 50.
 • Gloves - Mighty Strength - Permanently enchant gloves to increase Strength by 50.
 • Gloves - Exceptional Strength - Permanently enchant gloves to increase Strength by 35.
 • Gloves - Greater Expertise - Permanently enchant gloves to increase expertise rating by 50.
 • Shield - Blocking - Permanently enchant a shield to increase block rating by 40.
 • Shield - Protection - Permanently enchant a shield to increase armor by 160.
 • Ring - Greater Stamina - Permanently enchant your own ring to increase Stamina by 60. Enchanting your ring causes it to become soulbound and requires 475 Enchanting skill to remain active.

Shield Block, Defensive Stance and You

| Comments

So while talking about low level tanking, I spoke a little about Rage generation and some of the abilities we have at our disposal. I forgot to mention how you actually get Defensive Stance , to be fair I had completely forgotten: it’s through a quest you can pick up at level 10 (Horde | Alliance | Draenei). What does Defensive Stance give you? Well apart from certain specific tanking abilities, ie. Sunder Armor and Taunt, it also affects some of your attributes. You take 10% less damage and your damage generates 5% more threat (at some stage we’ll talk a little more about threat, but in a nutshell this is what makes mobs stick to you). Once you hit level 16, you get access to one of the staples of tanking : Shield Block - it is considered so important because a blocked attack cannot not be a crit, so spam that button whenever it’s off Cooldown (CD) - once again be aware that things are changing in Cataclysm, but for now we’ll concentrate on what we know for sure. You can read up some more info on Block.

4.01 Is Here

It’s been three days since the patch hit and rung in all the changes. Since I am still levelling, I can’t comment on the DPS issues that warriors face since the patch came (the sky is always falling for some after a patch), but all I can say is I am really enjoying the changes. There were a few head scratching moments and a bit of disappointment to see certain abilities disappear or be moved to higher levels. I miss you Intercept, it was such a short lived affair before you were taken away from me :). Two more levels and we shall be re-united. Here’s the build I settled on. I only have the prime and minor glyphs equipped as I find Glyph of Death Wish is just overpriced on Stormrage. 8o gold a pop and while I can understand that due to the changes glyphs are no longer disposable and a price rise was to be expected, I still think the price is a little steep.  As an alternative I have been considering Glyph of Victory Rush. Anyone who has ever levelled a warrior knows the pain of killing a few creatures, stop, sit down to eat, rinse and repeat all the way to the level cap. Now however, there’s no more downtime! The change to Victory Rush combined with Bloodthirst, now easily allows us to storm into group after group of mobs and never really have to worry about your health or having to pause. Fury warriors are now truly a continuous killing machine, making levelling a breeze. I also tanked a few instances as Fury and was pleased to see that my rage generation was no longer a problem. Threat generation wasn’t too bad either. Battle Shout (I did miss Bloodrage for about 2 minutes, but now that BS generates rage…) , run in, Thunderclap, tab target Sunder Armor, then all you need to is Cleave and TC, whenever it’s up and mobs should stick to you just fine, satisfying all of your groups AOE needs. Now that the patch has lowered the cost of Dual Talent specialisation to 100 gold, I will soon take a peak at the tanking tree and giving it a whirl. Pretty water... My final comment is about the update to the textures, how gorgeous are they know? The water itself just makes me want to jump into it every time I see a puddle big enough!

Because I have to keep running this script and thus look it up, keeping it here for handy and quick reference
select count(id) from database.dbo.tablename group by id having count(id) > 1
